Life After Winter

I
The roads stretch like cats
Finished napping,
Shaking off the resilient
Outline of winter.

II
Blossoms explode
Into rising temperatures,
Approximate ancestors
Of smiles and warm feelings.

III
Stars, like outraged vikings,
Conquor the clouds,
Vestigial leftovers
Clinging to existence.

IV
Waking with the window
Open to the smell
Of rain, I set
The alarm back an hour.

  1. This is one of my favorites that I've read so far. The images are so vivid and I the end is like a little fun surprise. Very well done. (And to think this was written back in 6/2005 -- back before your reunion, when you were not yet so wise! ;) ha ha
